Elizabeth Flores

Elizabeth Flores Owner/Instructor:

Elizabeth has been a sought after Pilates instructor for over two decades and was trained by a first generation Pilates teacher, Romana Kryzanowska. Her first Pilates experience happened at the age of 16 when she was training to be a professional ballet dancer at the School of the Hartford Ballet. A dancer from Hamburg Ballet taught her Pilates mat work one summer, improving her core strength and balance. She continued to do Pilates daily for the rest of her professional dance career as a soloist at the Hartford Ballet and Karlsruhe State Theatre in Germany. As she transitioned out of dance, she helped establish the Connecticut Center for Dance Medicine (CCDM). It was a joint venture with an orthopedic surgeon and a local physical therapy clinic that worked with the Hartford Ballet and surrounding dance schools.

She received her Pilates training from Romana Kryzanowska, who studied directly under Joseph H. Pilates. She also trained in Gyrotonics with it’s creator, Julio Horvath, in NYC. Elizabeth received her associates degree and is a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant. From 2010-13 she was an adjunct faculty member at Quinnipiac University in the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program's Pilates education section.

In 1999, Elizabeth opened her own Pilates Studio in West Hartford and has been working with a varied clientele. She continues to seek continuing education and holds a certification in TRX as well. Due to her diverse training and strong orthopedic background, doctors, physical therapists, dancers, athletes and clients seek her expertise, as well as the expertise of her other instructor(s). Elizabeth’s passion for her work is evident in the success and commitment of her clients. She’s worked with an Olympic snow boarder, sports celebrities, active 80+ year olds and more. Helping others is what truly brings her joy and doing that through movement is the best!

Sally Melady

Sally has loved movement from a young age and began dancing at age 3. After graduating from the North Carolina School of the Arts, Sally began her professional dance career in Ballet Oklahoma, after which she joined the Miami City Ballet as a charter member. Sally rounded off her professional dance career as a principal dancer with Ballet du Nord in France. After discovering Pilates while in Miami, she found the method instrumental in strengthening her under-used muscles and stretching over-used muscles to create a much more balanced body and noticed that it helped many fellow dancers stay in shape while recovering from injury.
Sally met Elizabeth Flores in 2000 and Beth trained her in the classical style of Pilates. She began working with Beth at Pilates West Hartford in 2001. Sally is also certified by Pilates Method Alliance and holds a separate certification in Total Resistance Exercise (TRX). Her students include men and women of all ages and abilities. Her dance background combined with 20 years of teaching experience gives her a unique and knowledgeable path to creating a wonderful exercise program for every client. Facilitating discovery, strength and success for each person brings her a great feeling of accomplishment. When she’s not teaching Pilates, Sally enjoys cooking, travel, yoga and spending time with Bonnie, her Springer doodle.
